Why Every Office Should Have A Breakout Area

Here at Think Furniture we are strong believers that every working office should include a breakout area! And hopefully throughout this blog, we will open your eyes to the possibility of having one in your office.

What is a breakout area?

A breakout area is classed as any area within a workplace where employees can go to be away from their usual working area, this can include soft seating areas, sit-stand desking, media units & pods.

Employees typically use breakout areas for some, or all of the following reasons; eating their lunch, holding informal meetings or even just to take a break from a busy work environment.

Why should my workplace have a breakout area?

Due to the ever-increasing amount of digitalisation going on around us every day, we are spending more and more time glued to our computer screens and TV’s, and in the workplace this fact is even more prominent.

Scientific studies have shown that using computers for extended periods of time without regular intervals, causes a whole plethora of medical issues, including but not limited to; headaches, migraines, tiredness, depression, and even causes damage to the brain!

In particular, studies have shown signs of Atrophy (tissue loss/tissue shrinkage) affecting the frontal lobe, which controls many important executive functions such as; ability to prioritise, plan, organise and impulse control, and also damage to the part of the brain that is in involved in our ability to develop empathy and compassion towards others.

Shocking right? Now imagine that all of these potential health issues can be eradicated just by utilising a simple breakout area within your workspace!
